Gay romance games
The most popular gay romance games are slowly becoming a more common feature in video games. Games like Fallout 2's ability to marry Miria as a female character or Davin as a male player were groundbreaking for their time. Bioware's Dragon Age Inquisition made strides in treating LGBTQ characters equally as its other playable cast members. Similarly, the tabletop RPG/dating romantic gay game GxB has Momoko as one of its romance options.
The seas are stormy for Pirates of the Burning Sea. The swashbuckling MMO's creator, Brian Taney, has been running the tiny dev studio Portalus Games alone since August of 2018. In a heartfelt blog post to his players, he revealed that his only programmer had quit. Taney has managed to keep the romance gay game afloat with dedicated volunteers, but it's no longer sustainable. He's even had to stop hiring for positions like quality assurance and customer service.
Games with romantic gay options aren't always clear about their intentions. One of the most infamous examples is the Otacon ending in Metal Gear Solid, which only becomes available if you romance Snake's male teammate instead of Meryl. This has become known in the fandom as 'the gay ending'.

In romance gaygames that feature romance, it is common for players to be allowed the option of pursuing a same sex love interest alongside a wide variety of heterosexual options. However, this is often done by displaying a diversity of options to the player without reflecting that supposed open-mindedness in the actual gay game romantic world.
In this adventure, Lex retraces her steps in the storybook worlds, traveling from one story to another in an attempt to save the oracle Cassandra and uncover who is behind her dastardly plan. Along the way, she encounters a cast of familiar characters including princesses, wizards, and other famous figures of fiction. This is a great example of how implicit romances in romantic video gay games can function as critiques of gaming's traditional status quo.

Majikoi S is the sequel to the 2009 visual novel Majikoi, and offers a similar experience. All the main characters have their own romantic route in this gay romence game with new events and epilogues. Additionally, the Agave route in Majikoi gains a special after route that unlocks two additional routes.
The gay game with romances takes place in Kawakami city, which is known for its strong loyalty to its samurai ancestors and fighting spirit. It centers around Yamato, a second year student at the local high school who always has his close friends with him (three boys and three girls) that dates back to early childhood. The romance gay game has a Gay Option that includes the ability to have both same-sex and opposite sex romances with the heroines. However, it's very hard to get the Gay Option unless you spend the most time with each of the main characters.
Bully, which is being re-released as the Scholarship Edition on Wii, takes Rockstar's GTA game play and humor into a new setting - the schoolyard. The result is a romence gay game that's as addictive as it is fun. The game's hundreds of missions are bite-sized experiences, each of which last as long as a Snickers bar. The soundtrack is a mix of funk, punk and electronic music that matches the mood of each situation. Voice acting is superb, and there's a huge amount of dialog.

It's important to note that Bully was released several years before Dragon Age, Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed introduced romance games with gay characters It features some off-color humor and gross situations (like a cook sneezing into stew made of month old meat) but there's no nudity or real sexual content in the romantic gay game. Bahamut Lagoon is a narratively driven strategy RPG that, to this day, remains a Japanese exclusive Super Famicom game. The gay romance game is notable for featuring one of the first queer characters in a major role-playing game: Birdo, the pink, beribboned dinosaur.
Other romance gay games with romantic love have attempted to address the gay romance trope in different ways. Mass Effect 2 allows the player to romance Dorian, a mage from Tevinter, who is openly gay. Dorian is a complex character with a dark past, including his own father trying to make him straight through magic, a chilling parallel to modern-day gay conversion therapy.
Unfortunately, Near would never finish the localization of Bahamut Lagoon. He would commit suicide later that year in response to a campaign of targeted Internet harassment and privacy intrusion.
